Dot Day project

Project: The students will listen to the story, "The Dot", and create their own dot on a coffee filter using watercolors, markers, paintbrushes, and water. Students will use the markers and crays on the dot to create a fun and colorful pattern. The student will then use watercolors to fill in the rest of the dot and to blend out their marker designs. The crayons resist the water so their design will stay as they were.

My Dot: For my dot, I used a white crayon to write my name and to add fun swirling designs. I added a pink marker to the edge of my circle to be later blended in with my watercolor paint. I used warm colors for my design and used a darker color for the area where my name is in so that the name would stand out more.

Activity: I would use this project and incorporate it with a science lesson about learning the parts of the earth such as the inner core, outer core, mantle, and crust. The students could use different colors of paint to create these sections and use their crayons to label each area.
